AKELEY CITY COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING

JANUARY 24, 2007

7:00 PM CITY HALL

The Akeley City Council met in a special meeting Wednesday January 24, 2007 at 7:00 pm.  Tom Moore called the meeting to order.  Council members present were Tom Moore, Frank Lamb, Eric Sjolin and Cliff Johnson.  Brian Hitchcock was not present. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Council and attending audience.

Motion by Eric Sjolin seconded by Frank Lamb and carried to approve agenda.

Discussion was held on campground rates.  The Council and Campground Manager Greg Everett felt the rates had been raised too high at the regular council meeting on 1-10-07.  Reservations for the campground will be taken starting February 1^st and the council wanted to make sure the rates were changed before then and at a more gradual increase.

Motion by Frank Lamb seconded by Eric Sjolin and carried to approve to change the campground rates to the following:

Discussion was held regarding the increase of water and sewer rates.  The rates had not been raised in about two years according to Clerk/Treasurer Denise Rittgers and in a letter from the State Auditor; our city was encouraged to increase water and sewer rates to aid the city in possible future water/sewer emergencies.

Motion by Frank Lamb seconded by Eric Sjolin and carried to approve to raise water rates $2.70 per month and sewer rates $2.30 per month for a total increase of $5.00 per month and the charge of $3.50 per 1,000 gallons of water used over 4,000 gallons would remain the same.  

Discussion was held regarding Melissa Niblick’s new responsibilities due to health issues with Liquor Store Manager Bob Winner.  Decisions need to be made at the next regular council meeting on February 14^th regarding her duties, pay, benefits and hours.
