2010 Reunions
C lass
of 1970 - 40th
Class Reunion
July 12, 2010
Our 40th reunion will take place on Saturday, August
7th. Below is a schedule of the planned activities
for the day. Everything is intended to be very
informal. We are asking each classmate to contribute
$10 to cover the cost of the reunion, which you can
give to me the day of the reunion. Included in
this mailing is a questionnaire the planning
committee has put together asking for basic
information from each one of us. Gay hasn't received
many photographs for the presentation she was
putting together. So if you'd like to see a photo
presentation at the reunion please email digital
copies of your pictures to her at
garciagl@live.com.
REUNION SCHEDULE
3:30-School Tour
We'll meet at the school playground area, which is
located just south of the old first grade room.
Hyacinth has arranged for a tour of the school,
which will be led by a member of the Akeley Regional
Community Center, which is the nonprofit that
operates the school. I'm not sure how much of the
school we'll be able to see.
5:30-Meal at Chase on the Lake in Walker
Jeanette has taken care of the arrangements for our
meal. We will be in the Water Edge Room which is
located next to the 502 Room, the main Chase dining
area. The Water Edge Room is a private room
overlooking Leech Lake. Cost of the meal will be $22
per person; this includes tax, and gratuity.
Alcoholic drinks are available, but not included in
the cost of the meal. The meal includes salad,
vegetable, potato, and beverage (non alcoholic). The
two main course choices we will have that night are:
Roast Pork Loin with a Chutney Sauce or
Chicken Breast and Walleye combination plate.
The Chase would like to know the approximate number
of people that will be at the Chase for the reunion
meal. Please let either Jeanette (email:
Goehring@eot.com) or me know if you will be
taking part in the meal and if your
spouse/significant other will be attending with you.
Following the Meal
Ernie and Pat Opheim have offered the Hillside for
us to use to get together following the meal. Ernie
is putting together a jam session for our
entertainment that night, if you'd like bring an
instrument.
Things you'll need to bring to Hillside: Lawn chair,
whatever beverage you'd like to drink and a cooler
if your beverage needs to be kept cold, a snack to
share—nothing elaborate chips, cookies etc would be
great.
Things you might want to bring to Hillside:
A CD with your favorite 60s/70s music, pictures and
memorabilia. We plan to have something available at
Hillside to post things on.
If you could please do the following three things in
the next week, it would really help us finalize
things for the reunion:
1. Complete and return the enclosed questionnaire to
me. If enough of the questionnaires are returned
in the next week we'll work on putting together a
handout for everyone with the information.
2. Let either Jeanette or me know if you're planning
to attend the meal at the Chase and if your
spouse/significant other will be attending as well.
3. If you'd like a photo presentation at Hillside,
get digital copies of your pictures to Gay.
We hope to see you at the reunion!! If you have any
questions or concerns, please let me know (email:

speech about what is happening at the ARCC.
Lanny
Schmeideberg along
with many of the past cheerleaders led the crowd
with the Akeley song
and cheer.

Hello Fellow
"1981" Classmates
Hope all is well
with each and everyone of you!
If you remember
when we had our "25th" class reunion we
voted on having our
"30th" class reunion a year earlier
during the All School
Class Reunion. Therefore the All
School Class
Reunion will be held on July 3, 2010.
We plan on meeting in
the gym at 3:00 p.m. with the program
following at 4:00 p.m.
Lets all show our "1981" spirit and
pride with the
most attendance!
Perhaps then with a
little time to spare, we could grab a bite to
eat. There will be a
dance at the Akeley VFW that starts around
8:00 p.m. to whomever
wants to mingle over a couple of
drinks and talk
about the last 4 years or just about old times.
Hope to see ya there!

Sincerely. Lori Vallo

Akeley All Class Reunion A Great Success
I would like to thank all that
attended the all class reunion for Akeley, for you came from all
parts of the U.S... There were approximately 300 registered.
I personally want to thank Chris
Congers and all his helpers for the use of the gym, and for setting
up all the chairs etc., co-workers that worked with me such as Gary
and Carole Hendricks, Marie Erickson Crosby. Leroy Miller, Deloris
Lamb and our web page coordinator, Larry Stiffler, who did a
fantastic job, and I thank him for that.
Then there were the ones that spoke,
registered names, worked at food stands, provided music and judged,
plus the many other jobs of just getting things ready for the
weekend.
Those attending and receiving awards
at the reunion were: Oldest female, Frances Lamb, (class of 1933).
Fred Johnson also graduating from that class was unable to attend.
Oldest male attending went to Clarence Olafson, (class of 1940).
Those coming the furthest were female, Verna Olson Herrero from
Orange County, California and male, Louis Hart from Tampa, Florida.
The award for the male and female that changed the least was given
to Frank Lamb Jr., class of 1980 and Wanda Lamb Lindow, class of
1981.
The class of 1965 had the best
representation with many other classes just
under them in numbers.
The teacher attending that had the
most years taught in Akeley was given
to Jan Lundsten.
Recognition was given to all former
teachers, bus drivers, custodians and
school board members in attendance
The Saturday program ended with
singing the Akeley High School song led by
Lanny Schmeideberg.
Big Thanks to Akeley VFW for
providing a place for us to have a dance
and those that set in using their
musical talents.
Sunday was spent with individual
class picnics and an all class picnic at the lake
which were all well attended.
Thanks again to all and we will see
you all in the year of 2010.
