Our major Projects are Eye
Sight and Hearing. We have just recently adopted a Hearing Aid Program
locally for Lions members and those with financial hardship. For more
information about this program please call Randall @ 218-652-3777 or
E-mail.
The
Akeley Lion's Club adopted 2.5 miles of County Road 25 which goes around
11th Crow Wing Lake from Hwy 64 to Hwy 34. There are two signs up
recognizing the Akeley Lion's Club community service effort. Members will be
out in force cleaning the ditches as soon as the snow melts and it warms up
a bit.
LIONISM. The Lions Organization is an international
organization and serves in many areas throughout the world. Just
what does a Lion do? Our motto is "We serve" and that is exactly
what we do. Each year the Akeley club makes donations to help
maintain the Minnesota Lion Eye Clinic and hospital, the training
and ultimately placing of a Seeing Eye dog with a blind person. We
support the hearing dog foundation that helps train dogs to be
placed with a deaf person so that he/she can remain independent. We
make donations for research to help find a cure for diabetes and
have helped screen people for diabetes at Health fairs throughout
the world, they help support the youth outreach camps. The Lions
have helped victims of 9/11, Tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina.
On the
local level the Akeley Lions have held benefits for persons who have
problems with their medical bills, helped the Senior Center pay
their heating and electricity bills, made donations to ARRC and the
library within the ARRC. They constructed the Paul Bunyan picnic
area in front of the museum, have sponsored the free clothing center
behind the T & M station, and participated during the Akeley
Clean-up days. They have donated time and money to construct the
new fence and sign at the entrance to the cemetery and the new
directory. The Lions are very active in the community during the
holidays generously donating monies and time to various projects and
charities.
We
welcome your support!!
